In a girls life the most important day is her wedding day. The major decision for any bride is what wedding dress will suit her the best? As children, most girls fantasize about their perfect wedding day, the handsome groom, the beautiful flowers, the delicious cake, and most importantly, the dress. Even though we will probably only wear the dress for a few hours the fact remains that it will be the most important dress that we ever buy. This is probably due to the fact that all eyes will be on us for those few hours and we will be the centre of attention.
So now you are ready to find your perfect dress, but don’t know what to look for? Here are some pointers to help you decide what choice to make. The dress should compliment your body shape and make you feel and look your best on your big day.
The Hour-Glass Figure:
The most flattering wedding dress types for you would be an A-line or a dress with a dropped waistline.
Either a Ball gown style dress or a corsetted dress is best for this body shape. Make sure that you have a gown that accentuates your curves, and not choose one that draws the eye to an unflattering line. Make sure you are emphasizing all the right curves!
The Pear-Shaped Figure:
With this body shape the idea is to choose a wedding dress that brings balance to your top half and bottom half. An A-line and Ball gown style would work best to disguise fuller hips, and paired with either a Strapless, V-Neck, Off-the-Shoulder, or Scoop neckline will draw attention to your upper half and work to bring proportion and balance out your figure.
The Petite Figure:
Being thin, whether tall or short, nearly every silhouette will flatter your figure. Steer away from big elaborate gowns if you are short, as they could swamp your small frame and the dress could end up wearing you! The empire or princess gown will tend to lengthen your figure and add some height. Small straps or strapless gowns can be very flattering on a petite frame. If you are quite tall, you might want to avoid empire dresses as they will draw more attention to your height.
It is always a good idea to try on many different styles of gowns with different necklines to see what you like. Be prepared that a dress off the rack, or one you have seen in a magazine may not look the same on the model as it does on you. Remember that, while your weight may fluctuate between the time you buy your gown and the day of your wedding (this is where the seamstress comes in handy!) your body type will not change. So, even if you’re planning on losing weight before your big day, choose a wedding dress that suits you today.
